Transmission Pole Inspections

Our highly skilled team are qualified to inspect, assess and evaluate overhead transmission assets.

Preventive maintenance of utility assets very important to performance and longevity of the network. Overhead transmission feeders are supported via various elements, however, the most critical and common support structure is the timber power pole for sub transmission systems. Modern corporate structures encourage outsourcing, which means there is high demand for qualified experienced pole inspectors has arisen.

What makes the transmission system inspections unique is the variety of constructions, treatments and integrity factors to provide reliable consistent supplies for the downstream customers. The feeder needs to be inspected according to it’s own merits, standards and environmental variables. It is imperative that only skilled and experienced pole inspectors are used to perform transmission pole inspections.

Which standard regulates the inspection points, assessment and report of these overhead poles? Most of the time it comes down to who owns the poles. For example, if Ausgrid owns the asset, their governing network standard would be NS145; or if Transport for NSW required a feeder inspection, the manual E100100E may be the standard to guide the transmission pole inspection

There are national and international standards such as AS 1720.1-2010 and ISO 15206:2010 which would provide the overarching principles, techniques and procedures. Thus, it’s important that inspectors understand the standard required for each individual project and owner.

Next time you need any transmission assets inspected, our skilled team are ready to assist. Remember critical assets call for qualified inspectors.
