FIRE WARNING

NSW had one of the worst bush fire seasons in 2019-20. Commonly known as the Black Summer it caused approximately 103 billion dollars worth of damage. This natural disaster has reminded owners of the need to manage the risk by having regular asset and pole inspections to mitigate the risk. Composite fibre poles are the best option to use for your overhead supply in a bushfire prone area. The fire-resistant properties save lives and maintain supply.

Composite poles are commonly used poles for electricity distributors but now also for the consumer market. These poles are available in different lengths but usually have a high set strength rating. Since our pole team are ex-utility linesmen we specialise in the installation, maintenance, inspection and design for these types of assets.

Composite fibre Titan power poles are sourced from very few suppliers and thus access to these products are limited. With pre-existing supplier arrangements, we have access to these power poles to suit the customers needs.

Electrical composite poles are the best option for rural properties in that they are non-conductive, fire resistant and termite proof structures. With bushfire prevention being the main concern of rural customers the Titan composite poles are the first choice.

Farmers also prefer this option since there is no leeching of the chemicals into the ground and is therefore excellent for organic environments.

These poles have a very long life expectancy since they are not prone to rot, pest infestation and deterioration compared to timber poles. Whilst being very light and easy to install the poles are also extremely strong. This makes them ideal for long runs with large cables needed to support the typical rural electrical overhead system.

Another key advantage of these composite fibre poles is that compared with steel and conventional concrete poles, corrosion can occur when the outer surface is damaged or incorrect installation methods are used. With these engineered electrical poles there is no steel within the pole. Without the risk of corrosion they can be used near highly corrosive environments.

USAGE: Consumer, distribution, telecommunication and rail is the prime areas in which these assets are installed. Very good for long runs, corner poles and heavy loading. They are also used for consumer A poles for residential customers and businesses. Use in fire, termite and corrosion prone area’s is highly recommended.

OPTIONAL POLE SETTING FOAM: We can supply and install an environmentally friendly pole setting foam. The advantage with this product is that within 15 minutes of using the foam hardware can start to be attached to the pole and conductors can be strung the same day. This saves on power outages for the repair, replacement or installation works as well as a second day site visit to install conductors which conventional concrete would require. Note: concrete generally shouldn’t be relied for footing strength unless engineered to do so.

POLE INSPECTION: Power pole inspections must only be undertaken by a pole inspector who is competent, qualified and experienced in the industry. Remember to ask to see your pole inspectors certificate. OHMS Electrical Poles can provide you with one of the leading qualified pole inspectors to ensure your poles are safe and maintained in accordance with the standards.
